Abortion argumentative essay writing ideas

So, you finally find yourself having to write the dreaded argumentative abortion essay. It comes in just about every student’s academic career at one point or another. It’s a topic ripe with controversy, so your teacher wants to see how you’re going to handle it.

Follow these three steps and you’ll be on your way to success:

  1. Decide how you feel on the matter. If you’re “in the middle” pick whichever side feels “more right” to you.
  2. Stick with your position no matter what.
  3. Collect facts from appropriate resources that validate your position.

Putting the Essay Together

Be sure that you mention, in your introduction, that the topic is extremely sensitive and polarizing. This will indicate that you have a compassion for others despite their beliefs on the matter. Regardless of which side you’ve decided to represent you should also indicate that abortion is largely a personal decision and until we can come to a mutual agreement as a society it will continue to be dividing line.

At the end of your first paragraph introduce a thesis that clearly states how you feel with a concise explanation of why. Here are examples from each side of the argument:

“Abortion should never be an option since the child is unable to participate in the decision to end its own life.”

OR

“The choice of abortion is a right that parents must be able to make since only they know whether or not they are bringing a child into the world at the right time.”

Back it Up with Facts

In the third step listed above you were to collect appropriate facts that support your position. Throughout each paragraph of your essay you should reference one or two of these facts. Use stories and anecdotes to present your position. Supplement these with more facts.

Facts have a beautiful trait – they can’t be disputed. If you can find facts that back up the position presented in your essay it will be significantly more acceptable. If you’re simply stating how you feel the reader is likely to recognize this and disagree with you out of principle.

Your teachers aren’t asking you to write an abortion essay because they want to know how you feel about the topic. They want to see you take a delicate subject and present it in a sensitive manner. If you follow the steps and tips presented herein you will amaze your teacher.
